Julián Brangold's work explores the visual and symbolic structures that emerge from contemporary internet culture and the broader technological complex. Moving across digital image making and AI assisted processes, painting and print, video, sound design and installation, his practice examines how online aesthetics shape perception, memory, and the ways images circulate and accumulate meaning. Brangold often works through remixing and iteration, drawing from memetics and obscure internet niches, viral phenomena, and the flow of the digital feed. His projects investigate how images mutate as they move through networks, how context erodes online, and how new forms of significance appear through the friction between understanding and ambiguity. Brangold’s work has been presented in exhibitions in Argentina and internationally, reflecting an ongoing interest in the shifting relationship between technology, visual culture, and the construction of concensus.

DESCRIPTION

A project created in 2019 using an early research version of ChatGPT (GPT-2) to generate an absurd poem which becomes the script for a digital body’s journey. The artist first worked with the model at a time when text generation tools still produced unstable and mostly incoherent results, embracing the incoherence, repetitions, and abrupt shifts in tone as material rather than error. This poem is then visualized inside Unreal Engine through a custom built avatar that moves through a sparse virtual environment, its gestures and presence loosely guided by the text. As the work unfolds, the body appears to strain under the weight of its own script, drifting through scenes marked by small breakdowns, loops, and moments of pure strangeness. Together, the poem and the digital figure sketch a story of a body formed by automated language, hinting at how early generative tools began to shape new forms of relating to the virtual and digital embodiment.
